Research activities

We are interested in the structure, function, and regulation of intracellular calcium release channels (ryanodine receptors, RyRs, and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors, ITPRs), and their roles in cardiac disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. More specifically, we are currently working on (1) a new entity of cardiac arrhythmia associated with RyR2 dysfunction, (2) the role of RyR2 in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease, (3) New disease entities associated with ITPR1 and ITPR2 dysfunction, (4) high-resolution three-dimensional structures of RyRs and their structure-function relationships, and (5) the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and Alzheimer’s disease.
