Spinal Cord, Nerve Injury & Pain Graduate and Postdoctoral Awards

The Spinal Cord, Nerve Injury & Pain (SCNIP) awards are made possible by a generous, anonymous donation to the SCNIP Brain and Mental Health Team. This competitive internal award is intended to provide support to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows pursing research in the field of spinal cord injury, nerve injury and pain. Funds are intended to offset reductions in funding opportunities and to promote collaboration by team members.

To be eligible for a SCNIP Graduate or Postdoctoral Award, trainees must:

  • Be involved in a collaborative project with two or more full members of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute whose research falls within the mandate of the SCNIP Team.
  • Be a full-time University of Calgary graduate (MSc or PhD) student or postdoctoral fellow in good standing. Trainees can be in any year of their program at the time of application.
  • Not currently hold a major studentship or fellowship from an agency or institution, internal (e.g. CSM, HBI) or external to the University of Calgary (e.g. AI-HS, NSERC, CIHR).

To be eligible to sponsor a trainee for this award, supervisors must:

  • Be members of the SCNIP Team.
  • Offer a research project that is compatible with the mandate of the SCNIP Team and the strategic plan of the Cumming School of Medicine of the University of Calgary.

Only one trainee in each category (graduate and PDF) per primary supervisor will be eligible for funding in each competition.

Trainee can only be supported by a SCNIP award once during their tenure at the HBI.
